Informational use only
PlainRelocate presents public federal data to help you research and compare U.S. metros. It is a starting point for a relocation decision — not financial, legal, tax, real-estate, employment, or relocation advice. Moving is a major life decision; always visit a place, talk to people who live there, and verify current conditions before you commit.
Data has lag and gaps
Federal datasets are published on their own schedules and can lag conditions on the ground by months or years — FBI crime data in particular typically lags 12–18 months. Some dimensions are only available at the state level for smaller metros, and we label those clearly. Costs, rents, wages, and safety can change faster than the data is republished, especially in fast-moving markets. Treat every figure as a documented historical measurement, not a real-time guarantee.
Scores reflect a model
Our composite scores combine several dimensions using disclosed weights. A different weighting — yours, for instance, via the City Finder — can re-order the results entirely. Scores do not capture everything that matters about a place (commute, culture, specific employers, weather you personally enjoy), and a high score is not a recommendation to move.
